Winter Park is a recreational hot spot. It stands to reason then that tourism is one of its highest source of revenue. With its proximity to Arapaho National Forest and the wilderness areas of Indian Peaks, Byers Peak and Vasquez, no matter what the season, out of towners are always visiting.
Tourism in the main source of industry in eastern Grand County
(referred to as the Fraser Valley). It is also the most visible and
touted, because of the superb snow conditions. There's alpine, cross
country, snowboarding, tubing and a whole heck more. Like sleigh rides
and ice skating and dog sledding. There're also top rate spas,
shopping, restaurants and hot springs for those less recreationally
inclined.
But with thousands of acres of land, both ranching and
agriculture are the primary industry in western Grand County. Wide open
spaces and, after all, this is the west you're talking about, means
ranches and cowboys.
The population of Grand County Colorado is
approximately 12,000 in the whole county, and is dispersed through the
rural areas and its six incorporated towns. Primary access to the
Fraser Valley is via Highway 40 over Berthoud Pass, which reaches an
elevation of 11,315 feet.
