Government
Winter Park is a community of 7.5 square miles with 662 full time residents calling it home. At 9,000 feet in elevation Winter Park prizes its high-alpine climate. Incorporated in 1979, the Town of Winter Park is located 67 miles northwest of Denver. The Town of Winter Park is organized as a Home Rule Municipality with a Council-Manager form of government.
The Home Rule Charter was approved by the Winter Park voters on
April 12, 1983. It provides the broad general powers which guarantee
the rights of its citizens to fully participate in their own municipal
government without undue influence by the state and federal
governments. The underlying philosophy is one of true local government
with full control vested in the citizens of Winter Park.
The
Town Code is a compilation of ordinances, "enforceable municipal law
for which penalty provisions may apply," containing procedures to
implement the Charter. All powers of the Town are exercised in the
manner prescribed by the Charter or by ordinance (town code).
It
is heartening to know this, especially since Winter Park and the Fraser
Valley has plenty of winter activities for locals and visitors alike.
From snowshoeing, dog sled riding, cross-country skiing and
snowmobiling, Winter Park is a place to get outdoors and experience the
beautiful scenery.
