Arapaho National Forest

Straddling the Continental Divide in North Central Colorado, Arapaho National Forest is known as the quiet side of Rocky Mountain National Park. And with over 1 million acres of land in the forest, there are plenty of activities to take advantage of, no matter which season you come to Arapaho National Forest.

Only an hours drive from Winter Park, Arapaho National Forest has a lot to offer no matter the length of your stay; there is truly something for everyone. Try a drive or hike to the top of Mt. Evans if you are interested in one of the many day trips in Arapaho. Mt. Evans is home to Summit Lake, the highest wheelchair accessible lake in the United States.

If you have the chance to take several days to explore the forest, there is an amazing variety of campsites in the area. Choose from secluded lakeside sites to ones that are RV accessible. If you like to hike, do not miss an opportunity to take in the breathtaking views. The trails range from easy to difficult- just remember to be prepared as the climate in Arapaho can vary greatly as the elevation changes and mid-July to August is rainy season where a thunderstorm can appear out of nowhere.

The rugged landscape of Arapaho National Forest showcases jagged ridges, cirques, and glaciers that beckon to be explored if you are looking to climb. Or if you like to fish, or just want to take a canoe or kayak out for a cruise, there are plenty of lakes and streams to be enjoyed.
