Georgetown Loop Train

Attractions //
The Georgetown loop train gives you a chance to see with your own eyes what engineers from the nineteenth century were capable of building. This rail line had to climb 600 feet in elevation in just 2 miles.
The Georgetown loop train was first constructed in 1884. Luckily, you can still enjoy the scenic ride from Georgetown to Silver Plume, which crosses the Devil's Gate High Bridge. Take exit 232 from Interstate 70 to get there. The town of Georgetown itself offers a visitor many attractions, such as historic hotels, buildings, and shops that will provide hours of fun for the whole family to enjoy. There is even an optional tour that travels down into the depths of the silver mine nearby.
In 1959, 100 years after the discovery of gold in Georgetown, the Colorado Historical Society created the Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park. The Society's chairman was able to found this park by donating mining claims and almost 100 acres of land. Construction of the railway started in 1973.
