With dog sledding becoming quite a popular winter attraction, the Blue Ididarace Sled Dog Races are one of the oldest and most respected races in the lower 48 states. This 2 day event takes place each February, set near Kremmling, Colorado, just about 45 miles from Winter Park .

At the Blue Ididarace Sled Dog Races, teams of 3, 4, 6, or 8 dogs pull sleds along a track that runs up to 8 miles long. Among the purebred dogs, there are Siberian Huskies, Melamute, and Samoyed in addition to mixed breeds. There are plenty of opportunities to interact with the dogs and the mushers, which makes this event very popular with spectators. The festivities include a skijoring race, where a cross country skier is pulled by one or two sled dogs on a leash- a sight not to be missed. If you get the chance, be sure not to miss these races, just be sure to call ahead for the exact location, as it can vary depending on snow conditions.
