Grand Lake Regatta and Lipton Cup Races
The Grand Lake Regatta and Lipton Cup Races are one summer event you do not want to miss. Attracting sailboats and sailors from all over the world, this event has a rich history dating all the way back to 1905.
Usually taking place in late July or early August, the Grand Lake Regatta and Lipton Classic Cup Races are held at the Grand Lake Yacht Club. Nestled right on the nearly 4 mile long lake, the Grand Lake Yacht Club boasts the world highest yacht anchorage due to its altitude. In 1912 tea magnate Sir Thomas Lipton visited the club and raced in the regatta. He was so impressed by the area that he donated a sterling cup, now referred to as the Lipton Cup. Many years later, sailors still compete for the prestigious award. Whether you are a sailing enthusiast, or a novice to the sport you will thoroughly enjoy the beauty of the area and the excitement of the races.
