Grand Lake
Grand Lake, located in Grand County, Colorado, provides a great outlet for water sports and recreation. The lake is best known as the largest natural lake in Colorado, but it is also gaining recognition for its healthy and diverse fish inhabitants. Grand Lake provides anglers with kokonee salmon, mackinaw lake trout and rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout.
The Village of Grand Lake, Colorado is surrounded by an abundance of open space with numerous recreational opportunities in its mountains and on its lakes. Grand Lake, one of the areas pristine natural lakes, is perfectly positioned around Rocky Mountain National Park and the Arapahoe National Recreational Area. Grand Lake offers exceptional opportunities for water sports and recreation, and has become a fine trout fishery.
Grand Lake is connected to man-made lake Shadow Mountain Reservoir and Lake Granby. Combined, these three recreational lakes offer more than 150 miles of scenic shoreline for camping, fishing or hiking. The lake levels of both Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake remain constantly full with a good population of rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout, along with mackinaw lake trout and kokanee salmon.
Grand Lake is home to several fishing contests throughout the year, hosted by the Grand Fishing Committee. Adjacent to the Arapahoe National Recreation Area, a 36,000-acre scenic wonderland in the upper reaches of the Colorado Valley, Grand Lake provides a beautiful fishery. The deep clear waters of this natural lake have proven to establish a healthy habitat for trout species and an abundance of wildlife.
