Where to go Fishing

Winter Park fishing can be found in numerous spots around this lovely mountain town.

  • Fraser River
Along US Highway 40, you’ll find Fraser River, flowing through Winter Park and north to the Colorado River at Granby. Below the town of Tabernash, the canyon is the ideal spot to go to find wild brook, brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout.
  • St. Louis Creek
St. Louis Creek is the perfect place to bring the whole family for excellent fishing. You can camp on the banks if you want and you’ll be able to fish all eight miles of the creek at many popular spots from St. Louis Lake to the town of Fraser.
  • Meadow Creek Reservoir
Just east of the town of Tabernash, you can take County Road 83, which forks to the left onto County Road 84. Follow the signs to the reservoir. Here you will find plenty of trout in the deep waters. You can camp on the north shores.
  • Willow Creek/Willow Creek Reservoir
Take off north on US Highway 40 to Granby, and then drive on Colorado Highway 125 into the Arapaho National Forest. Both Willow Creek and the reservoir offers great fishing for rainbows, browns and brook trout.
  • Colorado River
West of Granby, the Fraser River merges with the Colorado, a river known for exceptional fishing. Try the area around Hot Sulphur Springs and four miles downstream for great catches. Head into Rocky Mountain National Park for excellent fishing near the start of the river.
  • Lake Granby
This lake and other lakes north of Granby are all wonderful fishing spots. Lake Granby is known for healthy populations of rainbow, lake, brown trout and Kokanee salmon. You can also try nearby Grand and Shadow Mountain Lakes for more of the same.
  • Wolford Reservoir
Further west near Kremmling, the Wolford Reservoir is a lovely lake where you can catch plenty of rainbows, as well as brown and brook trout. There is a boat ramp to launch your vessel, but no motorboats are allowed.
